8 weeks pregnant & safely cleaning cat litter box?

My husband and I just found out 3 weeks ago we are expecting baby #2. Whoo Hoo! Anyways we have two cats and two litter boxes on our back porch. My husband works on the road for a week at a time though. Can I safely change the litter box if I wear rubber cleaning gloves(which go up to my elbows) and a dust mask thing we bought in the paint section at Wal-Mart? We haven't scheduled our first appointment yet, which is why I am not asking my doctor.. Thanks!
